A recent article on CNN.com reports “China’s first large jetliner has successfully completed its maiden flight.” This is huge news. The fact that China will produce large passenger aircrafts proves that it can compete at all levels with the best the West has to offer.
“…the milestone marks another key achievement for China on its ascent to challenging the west and cultivating its aerospace ambitions. The country is already an adept designer of military aircraft, but has sought to catch up to Boeing in the U.S. and Airbus in Europe in manufacturing civilian airliners.”
Airplanes are the ultimate product in term of fabrication complexity. This should be a huge wake-up call for the United States and Europe. At the same time, China is continuing to increase its car manufacturing capacity which it will start to export massively. These are chilling developments for those who hope to bring back manufacturing to the US. The question will be more “How do you stop China from taking new markets?”
